Mind Power: By Keeping Your Mind Active You Can Enhance It

The power of the mind in influencing human behavior and vice-versa has been proven over and over again.

At birth, the mind is a clean slate which is gradually filled as the person goes through life. This is by habit, training, conditioning, and other mind techniques.

As the person grows older, the mind increasingly relies on experience for action. This connection between human behavior and the power of mind continues until death. Thus, the human mind relies on what it gets to perform.

Optimal performance of the mind requires developing good habits and techniques.

Positive input

As the mind relies on what it has been fed on, negative or positive messages influence its workings.

The connection between living in a violent environment and the probability of committing violence is a good example. Positive input leads to positive action and the negative input to negative actions.

Avoiding negative input is crucial as this leads to a chain of negativity in thoughts and actions.

If, for example, you spend a lot of time with people with a negative attitude, such as complaining that a task is too difficult, this quickly conditions your mind to think that it can’t be done. You lose the morale to do it and lose the reward for doing it.

This, in turn, makes you feel hopeless and worthless.

Reinforcing the mind with positive messages gives a better outlook in life and other positive associations like hope and happiness. This gives the mind the impetus to work more productively as there are positive rewards awaiting.

Constant training

Just like the other muscles of the body, the mind requires constant work to avoid withering and wasting away. Training can be done on old or new skills.

Refreshing the old skills reinforces the mapping that the mind in specific action-reaction sequences has previously created. Master martial artists know this very well and train daily so that actions can be done even while blindfolded.

Taking on new challenges is the best way of keeping the mind working. New challenges require new thinking patterns which will require reorganizing how the mind has conditioned itself.

New thought patterns are established and dormant sections of the mind activated.

Learning to play guitar for example will require better perception of music tunes and improved hand coordination, requiring activation of sections of the brain connected to music.

Reprogramming

The mind is elastic and can be programmed to achieve higher functionality. Techniques like visualization, hypnosis, subliminal messaging and meditation can be used with varying degrees to make the mind perform in a desired manner.
