You have probably heard about Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist present in the 19th and 20th century, known for his amazing theories on consciousness. Today, we are reviewing his theory about the three births of our human spirit.
According to Carl Jung, every person undertakes a journey of three “births” spread throughout one’s lifetime. The first of them is our physical birth, followed by the birth of ego, and, finally, the birth of Consciousness.
Similar to the three births of our human spirit, each of us undergoes three phases of development in our life.
The first third of our life focuses on our bodily growth. The second is the growth of our ego and the third one is the period of internal development and growth.
Obviously, the first two births are focused on the opportunities and challenges that our consciousness faces in the real world.
However, the third phase has an emphasis on our internal development potential and how to experience a spiritual birth of consciousness.
The Three Births of the Human Spirit and How Each Programs Our Mind
In reality, our spiritual birth sometimes fails to happen because of the conditioned deep programming of one’s mind.
The truth is, this programming focuses on the development of the ego and, more often than not, that development continues until the end of one’s life.
Whether it’s our parents, friends or society per se, there are many variables that affect our egos as we grow up.
The conditional mental patterns are essentially the sides that have been controlling our lives, and preventing our spiritual birth.
The Dangers of Television: Programming the Mind
What we watch on TV also plays a crucial part in our development. Because we live in a consumer society, we are constantly encouraged (i.e. indoctrinated) to desire material things. The celebrity status is also deeply rooted in our culture, hence more people than not want to be famous.
TV programs promote consumerism and celebritism, which both feed the ego. This makes it even harder for people to understand how damaging the ego is and why it is necessary to ditch it.
Our programmed minds and inflated egos are definitely linked to a social pattern.
The system of values that most adults have, is a mirror of what the society projected onto them from an early age. For example, if you grow up in a community where most members hunt for sport, it is very likely that you will become a hunter yourself.
How many people buy expensive stuff because they find them to be necessary and how many do it just to improve their image and climb higher on the social ladder?
And the more they crave for others to praise and envy them, the more things they will buy. But this kind of — shallow — satisfaction is short lived and, sooner rather than later, the ego will want more and more.
That’s why it is imperative for parents to teach their children the dangers of feeding the ego and the slippery slope of putting too much value on material things.
The really valuable things in life cannot be bought:
- health
- family
- true friends
- real love
- a peaceful mind
- a kind heart, and
- inner balance.
These are the things that everyone should care about and use as foundation in life.
Achieving the Birth of Consciousness
The root of any spiritual birth is consciousness. You can expand consciousness by diverting your attention from the buzzing outside world to quite inner world.
Stop allowing yourself to be distracted by what the ego wants (like a spoiled little child) and focus on what your soul needs in order to grow.
You can start your (re)connection with consciousness by meditating an hour a day. Also, regardless of where you are, practice spiritual introspection as often as possible.
Our minds are curious and want to learn. Our souls are eager to grasp new concepts. Our entire being craves for knowledge and spiritual growth.
Unclutter your mind and open the floodgates of consciousness. Allow the birth of consciousness to take place inside your being and you will never be the same again!
