The world does not have to live in fear. We can choose to send out peace and love to those in need.
Imagine What It Is Like To Live In Fear
As I write this article, I can’t help to think of how this past couple of months has been very difficult for thousands if not millions of people all around the world! With earthquakes in Mexico, mudslides in Sierra Leone, the catastrophic floods in India, the hurricanes that tore through the Caribbean & Florida, the heartbreaking tragedy in Las Vegas, it’s almost too much to bear.
Usually, I watch the news every evening for just 30 minutes to keep me caught up on what’s happening around the world as well as in my area. Right now, that’s all I allow myself to watch.
The other day when I was watching the news, the story of Las Vegas came on, and I was shocked, hurt, and sad to see how one person can harm so many. It left me feeling utterly numb!
Most of us watched the news about the Mexico earthquake, the hurricane, and floods in Texas, as well as the hurricane that just happened in Florida. I know many people are saying to themselves: “What’s happening?!” I can’t remember a time where we had a succession of such dramatic and tragic events happen one after the other, caused by both nature and man. Many people turn to me for guidance and wisdom and sometimes … even I am at a loss for what to say.
All I can offer right now is to write about what keeps me going during this difficult time. I try not to focus all my attention on the tragedies – but focus and acknowledge the many thousands of people who are coming together in unity to help one another. There have been many heroes! That’s what I am choosing to focus on … the good in people!
We tend to live in fear when we see so much of it right in front of us. Some things are beyond our control and when we don’t have control – fear emerges. I asked my dear friend Lauren Rainbow the other day: “How does one stop living in fear?” She said she remembered a quote from many years ago that she heard: “The opposite of fear – is love.” Those few little words made total sense to me and made me feel peaceful.
So, my advice in this short Soul Inspirations, which is dedicated to the recent news is this. Right now, try to stay present. Make time and go inside for a few minutes every day. Breathe and recognize that peace lives in you. Reach for the peace that dwells there. Feel the peace and feel the love. This is also a good time to be grateful for what you do have in your life. It doesn’t matter how small it is. Being grateful helps to keep you in the here and now. Gratitude has its own wonderful positive energy to it.
Send out the peace and love that you feel for those that live in fear. When you have your own inner-peace, it can resonate to those around you. If everyone did this, then imagine how it would be felt around the world?
I hope this helps in one small way – and you received it, just when you or someone else needed it. Maybe just forward it to someone you know who’s hurting right now.
